Brenda Hewko investigative work includes an extensive review of more than a decade of municipal financial and governance records, including audited financial statements, budgets, bylaws, council authorizations, capital assets, land transactions, engineering reports, and grant documentation. She developed multi-year reconciliations, cumulative-effects matrices, transaction analyses, and standards-based assessments addressing complex accounting, audit, governance, and legislative issues.  She has also organized and analyzed complex financial, governance, documentary, and digital evidence for litigation support. This work has included source-document reconciliation, detailed chronologies, cross-referenced evidence logs, preservation of online content, document-production categories, custodian identification, and proposed electronic search protocols.

BIOGRAPHY

Brenda is a Chartered Professional Accountant, senior executive, and financial and governance investigator with more than 25 years of experience across municipal government, First Nations administration, non-profit organizations, private enterprise, health-care operations, and financial services. She has earned an MBA specializing in Natural Resources, Energy and Environment from the University of Alberta, Brenda brings a strong analytical and systems-thinking approach to financial management.

She is adept at process improvement, risk assessment, and the implementation of innovative financial strategies, including priority-based budgeting and complex financial modeling.  Her expertise includes strategic financial planning, public-sector accounting, governance, regulatory compliance, internal controls, property taxation, complex financial modelling, organizational restructuring, and technology implementation. She has led multidisciplinary teams and worked closely with boards, councils, executive teams, auditors, legal counsel, regulators, financial institutions, and community stakeholders.

Earlier in her career, Brenda held senior financial and operational roles in regulated environmental organizations, agriculture and food production, multidisciplinary health-care operations, and financial and estate planning.  Brenda is driven by a philosophy of transparency, accountability, and smart resource allocation, she continues to support organizations in achieving their missions through sound financial stewardship and collaborative leadership.
